When you buy a new copper firepit there are some safety issues that you will want to follow. One of the most important things to keep in mind is the weather. If your area has issued a fire warning of any type you wont want to start a fire outdoors. In dry areas it is better to be safe than to be sorry. If there is no fire warning remember also that you need to keep your fire under control. Make sure that your fire doesnt get too big, and keep a screen on the firepit so that there wont be any burning embers or ashes flying away from the fire.
Once the stone lining was completed we used an excavator to place the large stone seats. Depending on the size of the stones they may have to be dug into the ground or set higher on gravel to give them an approximately consistent height. Bearing in mind that a comfortable adult seat height should be 300 - 400mm the stones need to conform to this measurement. By the time the concrete is poured and the paving laid the finished ground height will be 150mm higher than existing ground level, meaning that the rocks should stand 450 - 550mm above the ground.
Your first step is, of course, to choose where your firepit will go. Pick an area that doesnt present a fire hazard and that will be comfortable for you and your guests to sit and relax. If, for example, you know one part of your yard is prone to mosquitoes, you would certainly want to avoid that spot. Just think practically, and you should be fine! When youve decided on the size and location of your pit, mark it using chalk or paint. If there is sod in the area, youll need to remove it, and you should also use a pre-emergent herbicide in order to prevent grass from growing in that area again.
This is simple a matter of taste and often taste is developed from past experiences. By the same token, some people prefer to have the warmth and aroma provided by a firepit that uses wood as fuel while others think there is nothing better than a gas fire that does not require all the cleaning that goes with the ashes created when wood is burned. There are lots of other reasons for the different selections that people make. The one thing that remains the same with just about everyone, and that is the fact that we all love the idea of being able to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and escape to a relaxing retreat. What could be more satisfying than creating that retreat in your own backyard with a beautiful firepit and some amazing outdoor furniture? Melissa Anne has been a freelance writer for several years.
