There are other safety issues that you also need to consider when lighting a fire in a copper firepit. Never, ever leave a fire unattended, even for just a moment. Also make sure that any children that are with you keep a safe distance from the fire. Do not allow children to put anything into a burning fire, even if they claim that they know what they are doing. Dont allow children to stir the fire or to add wood or charcoal. Also keep a bucket of water handy in case you need to put the fire out quickly. With a few precautions, you can happily enjoy your new copper firepit for years to come. A little bit of common sense goes a long way. Remember that if something seems like a bad idea, it probably is. Fire can be dangerous, but it doesnt have to be. Use care and make sure that you dont get too close. Follow all directions that came with your firepit. Youll be glad that you did.
Seat distance from the firepit is critical. Too close and the fire will be too hot; too far away and the heat wont reach you. You can vary the distance with each seat but we found that for a pit 800mm in diameter the seats should be about 1m away from the pit. This allows people to walk in front of each other around the fire. Once the rock seats are in place the next job was to pour concrete around the pit and around the bottom of the seats so that the outside line of concrete joins all the stones about halfway. The back of the rocks protrudes out into what will become turf.
Gas Firepit Safety 1. You can help prevent accidental fires by keeping the area around your firepit free from combustible materials. This can include cleaning materials like mops, brooms, newspapers but more importantly, gasoline and cleaning fluids. 2. Inspect and clean burners regularly. Insects such as spiders can actually nest in the burners and block air flow. If this happens a fire can start behind the valve panel. 3. Be sure to keep electric cords and power supplies away from the fire pit. 4. Dont use your gas fire pit in a windy area. If you need to do so create a windbreak. 5. Never line a gas firepit with tin foil. 6. Dont use your firepit as a storage area for flammable materials or plastic items which can ignite. 7. Never leave children unattended around fire pit when in use.
For others, usually the men who envisage beer and burger evenings, they want to take the whole kitchen outdoors. Some really enjoy the whole barbeque experience and love to regularly entertain their friends and family. It doesnt really matter which category you fall into as there are so many different models of backyard firepits, you can find one that is suitable. If you have a lovely big patio and use it as an outdoor living area, you may prefer to build an ornate outdoor fireplace. Some of these structures are even more elaborate than indoor fireplaces. Depending on the style of the structure you may need to employ a structural engineer particularly for a more elaborate design. If buying or building backyard firepits be careful to choose a design that looks good even when it is not lit. You want something that you can enjoy in the evening but not one that blights the look of your garden.
