Most fireplace glass doors are made of tempered glass with either ceramic or anodized aluminum frames. Glass is placed on the door so that the fire can still be appreciated even with the door closed. Most of these fireplace doors can be bought stock - meaning that most of the door that are for sale can be purchased off the rack and installed with minimal changes. However, the designs on these doors are almost alike in such a way that they can all be described as "simple and elegant." And although these new simplistic designs would probably look good on modern fireplace designs, these may be incompatible with the rustic brick fireplaces. A masonry fireplace door would probably look better with a frame made to look like antique brass.
While it is true that a fireplace insert is great for bringing life back to that old traditional or gas fireplace you have sitting dormant in the living room, a fireplace insert can do so much more for your home. If you have ever looked around your home and wondered how much it would cost to put a fireplace in a certain wall, room or area, you will be surprised when you hear the answer. While construction and labor costs for a traditional or gas fireplace can cost upwards of ten thousand dollars, you can actually have a fireplace built for merely hundreds if you use a fireplace insert and some materials from your local hardware store. Now, I cant deny that it is nice to have a wall mounted gas fireplace that lights with a simple remote. But, a wall mounted gel fireplace can be installed in merely hours for thousands of dollars less.
The Purpose of the Fireplace There are different reasons as to why you would need an electric fireplace and one of them can be to warm a living room or a particular room in the house. Therefore, chances are that you could end up having to choose between an electric heater and an electric fireplace. The truth is that both are quite demanding when it comes to electricity consumption and most the time, you cannot rely on an electric fireplace as a main source of heat. In fact, there are no assurances that the fireplace will increase the value of any home. In other words, electric fireplaces can have the best aesthetic value to any home whereby you can still use it to mimic the traditional fireplace without having it warm up the house. On the other hand, you also need to weigh the effectiveness of having such equipment in your home.
Once you have finished cleaning your chimney, the next step in cleaning your fireplace to prepare it for the coming warmer months, is to clean out the firebox. You will need to give your firebox walls a good brushing with a nice stiff brush. Knock down all the loose soot and ash that has gotten stuck to the brick walls and flue. Remove your fireplace grate and set it to the side on a newspaper. Keep it from touching your finished flooring, as it will leave a nice sooty footprint. You will clean this and your other fireplace tools in the next step. Using your fireplace shovel, you will need to scoop out as much of the completely cooled ash and the chunks of unburned wood as you can. Using your fireplace brush, sweep the remainder of the ash onto your shovel and into an ash bucket.
