The warm summer months bring memories of romantic walks along the beach, and pleasant afternoons in the sun. Summer gives way to the chilly days of fall. Chilly brisk air pinks the nose, and makes you snuggle down deep into your parka. The cool days become chilly nights. There is no better time to bring your date close to you than in front of a warm, crackling fire. Finding a Firepit to Suit You Digging a hole in the ground and building a fire in it only seems like the most practical way to go. Its cheap, and looks that way too. Today, there are so many commercial firepits available that theres no excuse to ruin your lawn. Not only is a store bought pit far more attractive than a dirt pit, but it can be moved to any point on your property. Maybe you want a location for a little privacy or maybe youd just like to get out of the wind.
Your first step is, of course, to choose where your firepit will go. Pick an area that doesnt present a fire hazard and that will be comfortable for you and your guests to sit and relax. If, for example, you know one part of your yard is prone to mosquitoes, you would certainly want to avoid that spot. Just think practically, and you should be fine! When youve decided on the size and location of your pit, mark it using chalk or paint. If there is sod in the area, youll need to remove it, and you should also use a pre-emergent herbicide in order to prevent grass from growing in that area again.
Once youve dug the hole you have 2 options, staying natural or a liner. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Leaving the pit bare saves you time and money. Once youre done digging all that you need to do is edge the hole. The biggest disadvantage to this method is that any rainstorm can wash out the sides of the pit and make it unstable. If youve decided to line the firepit then you have a few options. The cheapest method is to pour gravel into the hole and press it into the sides. Its a cheap affordable way to ensure proper drainage. The most expensive option is to brick and mortar the entire hole, while leaving drain holes in the bottom. Its an attractive solution, and youll never have to worry about one of the sides washing out.
For others, usually the men who envisage beer and burger evenings, they want to take the whole kitchen outdoors. Some really enjoy the whole barbeque experience and love to regularly entertain their friends and family. It doesnt really matter which category you fall into as there are so many different models of backyard firepits, you can find one that is suitable. If you have a lovely big patio and use it as an outdoor living area, you may prefer to build an ornate outdoor fireplace. Some of these structures are even more elaborate than indoor fireplaces. Depending on the style of the structure you may need to employ a structural engineer particularly for a more elaborate design. If buying or building backyard firepits be careful to choose a design that looks good even when it is not lit. You want something that you can enjoy in the evening but not one that blights the look of your garden.
