Regardless of the climate, people seem to love to gather around an outdoor fire. Its something that just seems to in our makeup as humans. Whether it is a summer bonfire or a nice warm campfire on a chilly fall or winter night, we love the warmth and smell and ambiance of an outdoor fire. Given that we live in a modern society, its not always safe or practice to build an old-fashioned campfire in your backyard or patio. That is where the relatively new invention of the firepit comes to the rescue. You have probably seen a fire pit or two, whether in a neighbors backyard or at you local superstore. Like many things in life, the price and quality of outdoor firepits varies greatly. You can easily find one for under one hundred dollars, but then again, you can also spend several thousand for a really high-end model.
Many pieces of patio furniture often come with a table top firepit built right in. this arrangement may be well and good if all you are using one for is to generate a little heat of lighting for you and your friends, but what if you want one where you can cook as well. Sure, most homeowners who enjoy cooking outdoors already have a grill where they can prepare food for the entire neighborhood if that is what they wish to do, but when you have a firepit that will allow you to cook right off of it, and you already have it burning and glowing anyway, why fire up the grill as well when it is just the two of you and the kids. After all, everybody knows that kids can enjoy hotdogs and smores anytime. But when you are looking for a relaxing retreat in your backyard, you may not be thinking about the convenience of sitting down to a bun and mustard smashed between the walls of a bun, so lets see what else we can come up with for your home made retreat. There is no secret about it that each person has their own idea of what is relaxing to them. While one person may feel that copper is the best option for providing the ambiance that will help them to thoroughly enjoy their time outdoors, others may prefer the look and feel of a cast iron firepit.
Your first step is, of course, to choose where your firepit will go. Pick an area that doesnt present a fire hazard and that will be comfortable for you and your guests to sit and relax. If, for example, you know one part of your yard is prone to mosquitoes, you would certainly want to avoid that spot. Just think practically, and you should be fine! When youve decided on the size and location of your pit, mark it using chalk or paint. If there is sod in the area, youll need to remove it, and you should also use a pre-emergent herbicide in order to prevent grass from growing in that area again.
If youre less than confident about your fire making skills, check out gas firepits. Yes, they do exist, and look as good as their wood burning counterparts. Being able to flip a switch, and light a match will bring your date close to you in a matter of moments, and doesnt require maintenance to keep it going. As we noted above, being able to successfully ignite a pile of wood is impressive. Buying a pit to handle wood fires is a great way to go if this is your style. You can show off your manly side to your date. Not only is a wood fire exciting, you dont have to settle for a flame size limit. A wood fire can be brought to blazing heights. You and your date can sit close while it dies down to burning embers.
